Job Description

You'll do your articles at a commercial law firm in Coega and learn the practice from the ground up. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Home base is a commercial law firm on the Coega side of Eastern Cape.

The work, day to day

Issue and serve documents at the magistrate's court and High Court
Take instructions from clients and write clear attendance notes
Study for the LPC competency-based examinations alongside the work
Attend court with counsel and take notes during trials
Appear in the magistrate's court on postponements and unopposed matters
Record your time on the practice management system every day
Draft letters of demand, summonses and particulars of claim

What you need

Code B driver's licence and a reliable car for court runs
Proficient in Word, Outlook and legal research databases
Good legal research and clear written English
Willing to work late before trials and filing deadlines

Nice if you have

Second official language used by the firm's clients
Completed PLT (Practical Legal Training) at a law school
Moot court or legal clinic experience
