Job Description

A legal aid office in Tzaneen has space for a law graduate ready to start practical vocational training. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Tzaneen-based, with most of your time spent at a legal aid office.

What you'll actually do

Take instructions from clients and write clear attendance notes
Attend court with counsel and take notes during trials
Draft letters of demand, summonses and particulars of claim
Research case law and legislation on SAFLII and Juta or LexisNexis
Study for the LPC competency-based examinations alongside the work

Must-haves

Clear criminal record, as required for admission
Willing to work late before trials and filing deadlines
Proficient in Word, Outlook and legal research databases
Code B driver's licence and a reliable car for court runs
Ready to sign a practical vocational training contract registered with the LPC
Good legal research and clear written English
