Candidate Attorney (Conveyancing and Property)

Get real court exposure and supervision at a commercial law firm in Welkom while you prepare for board exams. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

You'll report in Welkom. Relocation is not covered for this one. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Prepare trial bundles and discovery affidavits
• Draft letters of demand, summonses and particulars of claim
• Keep matter files updated and diarise court dates and deadlines
• Record your time on the practice management system every day
• Issue and serve documents at the magistrate's court and High Court

• Good legal research and clear written English
• Willing to work late before trials and filing deadlines
• LLB degree from a South African university
• Code B driver's licence and a reliable car for court runs

• Completed PLT (Practical Legal Training) at a law school
• Moot court or legal clinic experience

• Study leave for board exams
• Mentorship from an experienced principal
• Travel allowance for court runs
• Paid PLT course fees at some firms

• Attach a short legal writing sample; firms judge candidates heavily on drafting.
• Apply early in the year, as most firms fill articles from January to March.
