Candidate Attorney (Family Law)

You'll do your articles at a commercial law firm in Sasolburg and learn the practice from the ground up. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is in Sasolburg (Free State). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Draft letters of demand, summonses and particulars of claim
• Research case law and legislation on SAFLII and Juta or LexisNexis
• Issue and serve documents at the magistrate's court and High Court
• Record your time on the practice management system every day
• Prepare trial bundles and discovery affidavits
• Attend court with counsel and take notes during trials

• Ready to sign a practical vocational training contract registered with the LPC
• Code B driver's licence and a reliable car for court runs
• LLB degree from a South African university
• Good legal research and clear written English

• Travel allowance for court runs
• Mentorship from an experienced principal
• Paid PLT course fees at some firms

• Put your LLB, university and graduation year at the top, and your average mark if it's above 65%.
• Apply early in the year, as most firms fill articles from January to March.
