Candidate Attorney (Litigation)

You'll do your articles at a commercial law firm in Benoni and learn the practice from the ground up. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is Benoni-based, with most of your time spent at a commercial law firm.

• Research case law and legislation on SAFLII and Juta or LexisNexis
• Prepare trial bundles and discovery affidavits
• Appear in the magistrate's court on postponements and unopposed matters
• Draft letters of demand, summonses and particulars of claim
• Issue and serve documents at the magistrate's court and High Court
• Record your time on the practice management system every day

• Willing to work late before trials and filing deadlines
• Proficient in Word, Outlook and legal research databases
• LLB degree from a South African university
• Ready to sign a practical vocational training contract registered with the LPC

• Vacation work at a law firm
• Second official language used by the firm's clients

• Study leave for board exams
• Travel allowance for court runs
• Paid PLT course fees at some firms

• Apply early in the year, as most firms fill articles from January to March.
• Put your LLB, university and graduation year at the top, and your average mark if it's above 65%.
