Job Description

You'll do your articles at a personal injury law firm in Johannesburg CBD and learn the practice from the ground up. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll be based at a personal injury law firm in Johannesburg CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

The work, day to day

Attend court with counsel and take notes during trials
Prepare trial bundles and discovery affidavits
Issue and serve documents at the magistrate's court and High Court
Take instructions from clients and write clear attendance notes
Research case law and legislation on SAFLII and Juta or LexisNexis
Draft letters of demand, summonses and particulars of claim
Prepare affidavits and notices of motion for your principal to review

What you need

Clear criminal record, as required for admission
LLB degree from a South African university
Good legal research and clear written English
Proficient in Word, Outlook and legal research databases
Code B driver's licence and a reliable car for court runs

Nice if you have

Completed PLT (Practical Legal Training) at a law school
Vacation work at a law firm
Second official language used by the firm's clients
