Candidate Attorney (Road Accident Fund Claims) – Permanent

Get real court exposure and supervision at a legal aid office in Mthatha while you prepare for board exams. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

You'll be based at a legal aid office in Mthatha. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Take instructions from clients and write clear attendance notes
• Prepare affidavits and notices of motion for your principal to review
• Appear in the magistrate's court on postponements and unopposed matters
• Study for the LPC competency-based examinations alongside the work
• Keep matter files updated and diarise court dates and deadlines
• Attend court with counsel and take notes during trials
• Issue and serve documents at the magistrate's court and High Court

• Willing to work late before trials and filing deadlines
• Good legal research and clear written English
• LLB degree from a South African university
• Clear criminal record, as required for admission
• Ready to sign a practical vocational training contract registered with the LPC

• Completed PLT (Practical Legal Training) at a law school
• Vacation work at a law firm

• Mentorship from an experienced principal
• Travel allowance for court runs
• Paid PLT course fees at some firms

• Attach a short legal writing sample; firms judge candidates heavily on drafting.
• Say which area of law you want and why in two lines; generic cover letters rarely get shortlisted.
