Candidate Attorney (Second Year of Articles)

You'll do your articles at a labour law practice in Tembisa and learn the practice from the ground up. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

You'll be based at a labour law practice in Tembisa. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Record your time on the practice management system every day
• Issue and serve documents at the magistrate's court and High Court
• Prepare trial bundles and discovery affidavits
• Take instructions from clients and write clear attendance notes
• Study for the LPC competency-based examinations alongside the work
• Draft letters of demand, summonses and particulars of claim

• Proficient in Word, Outlook and legal research databases
• Ready to sign a practical vocational training contract registered with the LPC
• LLB degree from a South African university
• Clear criminal record, as required for admission
• Willing to work late before trials and filing deadlines

• Study leave for board exams
• Paid PLT course fees at some firms
• Travel allowance for court runs
• Mentorship from an experienced principal

• Apply early in the year, as most firms fill articles from January to March.
• Put your LLB, university and graduation year at the top, and your average mark if it's above 65%.
