Candidate Quantity Surveyor

This is a numbers job with boots on: bills of quantities, site measurements and payment claims in Somerset West. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is Somerset West-based, with most of your time spent at a quantity surveying practice.

• Get quotes from subcontractors and compare them line by line
• Use measuring software to do take-offs from PDF and CAD drawings
• Update cash flow forecasts for the project manager
• Track budget against actual cost and flag overruns early
• Prepare the final account at the end of the project
• Measure work on site for monthly interim payment certificates

• Understanding of JBCC Principal Building Agreement clauses
• At least 3 years of QS work in private practice or with a contractor
• BSc, BTech or Diploma in Quantity Surveying
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables
• You know the Standard System of Measuring Building Work

• Experience with civil bills using the SANS 1200 standard
• Honours degree in Quantity Surveying

• Study support for an honours degree
• Paid SACQSP registration fees and CPD courses
• Travel allowance for site visits
• Hybrid days in the office and on site

• List projects with their contract value and whether you worked for the client side or the contractor side.
• Recruiters often give a short take-off test. Practise measuring a simple house plan under time pressure before the interview.
