Carpenter (Roof Trusses & Ceilings)

Put your trade to work on the residential renovation company in Mthatha, with steady work for the length of the project. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is in Mthatha (Eastern Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Prime and paint walls, ceilings and woodwork in two or three coats
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear
• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings
• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer

• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside

• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest

• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
