Sharp eyes and a calm voice are the tools of the trade at a shopping mall security office in Johannesburg CBD. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Home base is a shopping mall security office on the Johannesburg CBD side of Gauteng.

• Keep call-out times and client passwords up to date
• Track stolen vehicles on the map and guide recovery teams
• Hand over open incidents clearly at shift change
• Pull and save video footage for incident investigations
• Report camera faults and offline sites to the technicians
• Answer alarm signals and phone clients to verify them
• Dispatch the nearest response vehicle over the radio

• Matric
• No criminal convictions (vetting is done before you start)
• Good memory for sites, streets and procedures
• PSIRA registration, Grade C or higher
• Computer literate and quick on a keyboard

• Training on the monitoring software
• Path to senior controller or supervisor
• Shift allowance for nights

• Show you can stay alert at night. If you have done night shift before without problems, say so.
• Mention any software you have used: alarm monitoring, CCTV or even call centre systems. Control rooms need people who learn screens fast.
