Job Description

Winter fire season is near, and a sawmill near George needs crews ready. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll be based at a sawmill in George. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

The work, day to day

Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times

Must-haves

Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Valid ID
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Willing to work in remote areas

Helpful, not essential

First-aid training
Previous plantation or sawmill experience
