Chainsaw Operator (Timber Felling)

Hard, outdoor work on a sawmill near Hammarsdale, with training on chainsaws and fire safety. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll be based at a sawmill in Hammarsdale. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
• Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
• Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
• Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times

• Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
• Passes the medical check for fire crews
• Valid ID
• Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
• Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader

• First-aid training
• Previous plantation or sawmill experience
• Chainsaw operator certificate

• Chainsaw and fire training at no cost
• Crew transport to plantations
• Full safety gear provided
• Fire-season standby allowance

• Mention fire fighting experience, even as a volunteer. Fire protection crews look for it before winter.
• Say you are fit and do not mind remote sites. Many applicants drop out after the first week, so recruiters test commitment.
