Chainsaw Operator (Timber Felling) – Permanent

Timber keeps rural towns working, and a fire protection association near Thohoyandou is hiring crews. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll report in Thohoyandou. Relocation is not covered for this one. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
• Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
• Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
• Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
• Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
• Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season

• Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
• Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
• Passes the medical check for fire crews
• Valid ID
• Willing to work in remote areas
• Available for early starts and fire-season standby

• If you have a chainsaw ticket, put it at the top. Certified operators earn more and are hired first.
• Say you are fit and do not mind remote sites. Many applicants drop out after the first week, so recruiters test commitment.
