Chiller Technician (Hospitals & Data Centres)

Here is work for a technician who can find a leak fast and gas a system up properly, with the hospital building services team in Soweto. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is Soweto-based, with most of your time spent at a hospital building services team. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Replace thermostatic expansion valves and electronic controllers
• Pressure test with nitrogen, pull a deep vacuum and charge with R410A, R32 or R134a
• Commission new systems and show the client how to use the controls
• Service cold rooms, display fridges and freezers on planned maintenance routes
• Diagnose faulty compressors, fans, contactors and control boards
• Check chiller log sheets and water treatment on building service visits
• Clean coils, replace filters and check drain lines on scheduled services

• Brazing, flaring and vacuum skills you can demonstrate
• Comfortable on roofs and ladders in summer heat
• Understanding of single- and three-phase control circuits
• At least 2 years servicing commercial or residential systems
• Refrigeration and air-conditioning trade test or an NQF 4 occupational certificate
• Code 08 driver's licence, since the job is mostly on the road

• CO2 transcritical refrigeration experience in retail stores
• Transport refrigeration units on trucks and trailers
• Building management system alarm handling

• Manufacturer training on new equipment ranges
• Gauge manifold, vacuum pump and recovery unit issued to you
• Standby pay for weekend fridge breakdowns
• Company vehicle with a fitted tool rack

• Mention whether you are comfortable on standby. Most service jobs in this trade include it.
• Say which refrigerants and system types you have worked on. A recruiter for supermarket work wants to see CO2 or large rack systems.
