Job Description

Roads, water, buildings: the road agency project office in East London needs a civil engineer who can take a project from design to site. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

The site is in East London; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

What your day looks like

Write design reports and handover documents
Design water pipelines, sewers and stormwater systems with hydraulic software
Work out loads to SANS 10160 for buildings and structures
Review geotechnical reports and choose suitable foundations
Act as resident engineer: inspect works, measure quantities and certify payments
Prepare tender documents under GCC 2015 or NEC contracts
Design reinforced concrete and steel structures to SANS 10100 and SANS 10162

You'll need

Good grasp of South African design codes for your field
Experience with structural or hydraulic design software
At least 3 years in design or construction supervision
BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering

Helpful, not essential

Experience on public sector infrastructure projects
Registration with SAICE and active CPD
Master's degree in structural or water engineering
