CNC Machinist (Lathe & Milling) – Permanent

You'll keep machines turning and parts in spec at the sugar mill in East London. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is East London-based, with most of your time spent at a sugar mill. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright

• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

• Shift and standby allowances
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Tool allowance

• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
