Toolmaker (Press Tools & Moulds)

Planned maintenance and breakdown work on shift at the general engineering workshop in Mthatha. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

The site is in Mthatha; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings

• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

• CNC programming experience
• Millwright trade test, since it covers both mechanical and electrical
• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants

• Tool allowance
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Paid overtime on shutdowns

• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
