Civil Design Technician (Stormwater)

This bulk water utility in Rosslyn needs someone who can check a design and then go and check it was built right. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a bulk water utility in Rosslyn. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Check drawings from technicians and sign them for issue
• Act as resident engineer: inspect works, measure quantities and certify payments
• Chair site meetings and handle contractor queries
• Work out loads to SANS 10160 for buildings and structures
• Design reinforced concrete and steel structures to SANS 10100 and SANS 10162

• BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering
• Able to explain technical issues to clients and contractors
• Code 08 licence and willingness to spend time on site
• Good grasp of South African design codes for your field
• At least 3 years in design or construction supervision

• Experience on public sector infrastructure projects
• Contract management training for NEC or GCC
• Registration with SAICE and active CPD

• Mention the design software you use and the codes you design to, so the reviewer does not have to guess.
• Say whether you have done resident engineer work. It is a separate skill and often in short supply.
