Job Description

Roads, water, buildings: the structural design practice in Newcastle needs a civil engineer who can take a project from design to site. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Home base is a structural design practice on the Newcastle side of KwaZulu-Natal.

What your day looks like

Act as resident engineer: inspect works, measure quantities and certify payments
Design reinforced concrete and steel structures to SANS 10100 and SANS 10162
Prepare tender documents under GCC 2015 or NEC contracts
Work out loads to SANS 10160 for buildings and structures
Apply for municipal wayleaves and building plan approvals
Design water pipelines, sewers and stormwater systems with hydraulic software
Review geotechnical reports and choose suitable foundations

You'll need

Good grasp of South African design codes for your field
Registered with ECSA as a professional or candidate
BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering
Able to explain technical issues to clients and contractors
At least 3 years in design or construction supervision
