Civil Labourer (Road Works)

Hard outdoor work on a shopping centre renovation in Boksburg, with a chance to learn a trade while you earn. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

Home base is a shopping centre renovation on the Boksburg side of Gauteng. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day

• Grade 8 or higher
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites

• Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor
• Previous site work you can show with a reference
• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket

• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Paid weekly or fortnightly

• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
