Job Description

Hard outdoor work on a townhouse construction site in Cape Town CBD, with a chance to learn a trade while you earn. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Location: Cape Town CBD, Western Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

What you'll actually do

Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision

What you need

Grade 8 or higher
Willing to start early, often at 06:30
Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
A clean record is preferred for some government sites

Helpful, not essential

A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor
Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)
