Civil Labourer (Road Works) – Immediate Start

Every wall and slab on this shopping centre renovation in Johannesburg CBD needs labourers, and the crew needs one more. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll report in Johannesburg CBD. Relocation is not covered for this one. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks

• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area

• Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)
• Previous site work you can show with a reference

• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days

• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
