Clinic Cleaner (Day Shift)

You'll keep a private hospital in Epping safe for patients by cleaning the way infection control demands. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

This post is in Epping (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Clean theatres between operations to the hospital's turnaround times
• Wear gowns, masks and gloves as each room requires
• Clean patient rooms using colour-coded cloths and mops for each area
• Take soiled linen to the sluice room and bring clean linen back
• Handle and bag medical waste in the right coloured bins
• Fill in cleaning logs so infection control can audit the ward

• Not squeamish about blood, vomit or medical waste
• Up to date with vaccinations the hospital requires, such as hepatitis B
• Matric or Grade 11
• Calm under pressure in busy wards
• Able to work shifts including weekends and night duty
• Willing to follow strict infection control steps every time

• Experience as a porter or general assistant in healthcare
• An infection prevention and control short course

• Medical aid option through the employer

• Shift allowances for nights and Sundays

• In the interview, explain how you clean an isolation room step by step. It is a common question and a quick way to stand out.
• If you did an infection control course, attach the certificate. It moves you ahead of general cleaners.
