CNC Machinist (Lathe & Milling)

Planned maintenance and breakdown work on shift at the packaging manufacturer in Benoni. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Location: Benoni, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Inspect and adjust conveyors, chains and sprockets
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change

• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers

• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants
• Hydraulic and pneumatic courses
• Millwright trade test, since it covers both mechanical and electrical

• Tool allowance
• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Shift and standby allowances

• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
