Code 14 Flatdeck Driver (Steel Loads)

You'll move heavy loads between Khayelitsha and depots across the country for a long-haul freight fleet. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Khayelitsha-based, with most of your time spent at a long-haul freight fleet. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Deliver to customers and get proof-of-delivery signed and stamped
• Do a full pre-trip inspection: tyres, brakes, lights, couplings and fluids
• Report breakdowns, delays and incidents to the controller immediately
• Follow hazchem rules, placards and emergency procedures on tanker loads
• Check the load is secured, strapped or sealed before leaving the depot
• Keep the logbook and tachograph or telematics records up to date
• Carry out fuel stops with the fuel card and keep the slips

• Valid PrDP (G for goods, D for dangerous goods on tankers)
• Clean driving record with no serious accidents
• Valid Code 14 (EC) licence
• At least 3 years on Code 14 trucks
• Able to be away from home for several nights at a time
• Passport for cross-border routes

• Dangerous goods training certificate
• Clean record on a telematics driving score

• Paid PrDP renewal
• Overnight and subsistence allowance on trips
• Monthly safe-driving and fuel-saving bonus
• Provident fund and medical aid option

• Expect a driving test with a real truck. Arrive rested and do your pre-trip check out loud so the assessor sees it.
• Be honest about accidents or fines. Companies check your driving record anyway and trust drivers who tell them upfront.
