Code 14 Refrigerated Truck Driver

You'll move heavy loads between Somerset West and depots across the country for a coal haulage contractor. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

You'll report in Somerset West. Relocation is not covered for this one. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Check reefer temperatures and record them on cold-chain loads
• Drive planned routes and stop only at approved truck stops
• Do a full pre-trip inspection: tyres, brakes, lights, couplings and fluids
• Log driving hours and take the required rest breaks
• Complete border paperwork at Beitbridge, Lebombo or other posts
• Keep the cab clean and report defects at the end of each trip

• Able to be away from home for several nights at a time
• Clean driving record with no serious accidents
• Medically fit, including eyesight
• At least 3 years on Code 14 trucks
• Valid PrDP (G for goods, D for dangerous goods on tankers)
• Valid Code 14 (EC) licence

• Experience on a specific trailer type (tanker, tipper, reefer)
• Dangerous goods training certificate

• Overnight and subsistence allowance on trips
• Well-maintained trucks with sleeper cabs
• Paid PrDP renewal
• Provident fund and medical aid option

• Expect a driving test with a real truck. Arrive rested and do your pre-trip check out loud so the assessor sees it.
• Be honest about accidents or fines. Companies check your driving record anyway and trust drivers who tell them upfront.
