Job Description

The road is your office with a long-haul freight fleet based in Mossel Bay, and the load gets there because of you. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

The site is in Mossel Bay; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

What you'll actually do

  • Keep the cab clean and report defects at the end of each trip
  • Follow hazchem rules, placards and emergency procedures on tanker loads
  • Drive planned routes and stop only at approved truck stops
  • Report breakdowns, delays and incidents to the controller immediately
  • Complete border paperwork at Beitbridge, Lebombo or other posts

You'll need

  • Passport for cross-border routes
  • Clean criminal record
  • Valid Code 14 (EC) licence
  • Medically fit, including eyesight
  • Clean driving record with no serious accidents

Helpful, not essential

  • Experience on a specific trailer type (tanker, tipper, reefer)
  • Dangerous goods training certificate

On offer

  • Overnight and subsistence allowance on trips
  • Well-maintained trucks with sleeper cabs
  • Monthly safe-driving and fuel-saving bonus

Applying, step by step

  1. Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): Code 14 licence card and PrDP (both sides copied), reference letters from previous transport companies plus dangerous goods certificate if you have one.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 7 working days.

Your application joins the How2Apply talent pool for this role, and we put shortlisted people forward to employers hiring in and around Mossel Bay.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • Expect a driving test with a real truck. Arrive rested and do your pre-trip check out loud so the assessor sees it.
  • List the trailer types and routes you have done, for example "tautliner, JHB to Durban, 4 years".
