Coded Welder (6G, ASME IX)

Strong welding and plate work for the stainless steel equipment manufacturer in Kariega, with real drawings and real tolerances. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Home base is a stainless steel equipment manufacturer on the Kariega side of Eastern Cape. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
• Weld carbon steel pipe in the 6G position using GTAW root and SMAW fill
• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• Read fabrication drawings and cutting lists before you mark out plate
• Keep a hot work permit open and a fire watch in place during shutdowns

• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Valid welder coding to ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX in the processes the job needs
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses

• SAIW welding inspector course, even at Level 1
• Orbital or automatic welding experience

• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home
• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Coding renewals paid by the employer

• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
• Expired codings are the number one reason welders are turned away at the gate. Check dates before you apply.
