Coded Welder (Pressure Vessels)

Strong welding and plate work for the structural steel fabrication workshop in Isando, with real drawings and real tolerances. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

Home base is a structural steel fabrication workshop on the Isando side of Gauteng. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Prepare joints for radiographic and dye penetrant testing
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector
• Read fabrication drawings and cutting lists before you mark out plate
• Weld carbon steel pipe in the 6G position using GTAW root and SMAW fill
• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging

• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help

• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home
• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied

• Expired codings are the number one reason welders are turned away at the gate. Check dates before you apply.
• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
