Coded Welder (Pressure Vessels) – Permanent

You'll cut, fit and weld steel to drawing in a busy pressure vessel manufacturer in Thohoyandou. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

This post is Thohoyandou-based, with most of your time spent at a pressure vessel manufacturer. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Fit up beams, columns and bracing with the correct gaps and alignment
• Keep a hot work permit open and a fire watch in place during shutdowns
• Follow the welding procedure specification for every joint you weld
• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Read fabrication drawings and cutting lists before you mark out plate
• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers

• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• Valid welder coding to ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX in the processes the job needs
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses

• Experience on structural work to AWS D1.1
• Orbital or automatic welding experience
• SAIW welding inspector course, even at Level 1

• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home

• Expired codings are the number one reason welders are turned away at the gate. Check dates before you apply.
• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
