Collections Team Leader – Fixed-Term

You'll phone customers who have fallen behind and agree payment plans they can actually keep. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a vehicle finance collections floor in Newcastle. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Send written arrangements by SMS or email straight after each call.
• Negotiate payment arrangements and set up DebiCheck mandates.
• Hand accounts over for legal action once internal steps are exhausted.
• Answer disputes about balances, interest and fees with a printed statement.
• Record reasons for non-payment so the credit team can adjust policy.
• Report daily on rands collected, contacts made and arrangements set.
• Dial through your arrears book on the auto-dialler and confirm the debtor's identity.

• Registered, or willing to register, with the Council for Debt Collectors
• Target-driven and comfortable with commission
• Matric
• Clear credit and criminal record

• Legal collections or attorney-firm background
• Knowledge of the NCA and prescription rules

• Monthly incentives for the top three collectors
• Uncapped monthly commission on collected rands
• Structured weekday hours with only occasional Saturdays
• Council for Debt Collectors registration paid for you

• Interviewers often role-play a difficult debtor; stay polite, get a date and an amount, and close the call.
• If you are already registered with the Council for Debt Collectors, put your registration number near the top of your CV.
