Collections Team Leader

You'll phone customers who have fallen behind and agree payment plans they can actually keep. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is in Umlazi (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Negotiate payment arrangements and set up DebiCheck mandates.
• Track broken promises-to-pay and follow up within 48 hours.
• Keep calls within the National Credit Act and the Debt Collectors Act rules.
• Dial through your arrears book on the auto-dialler and confirm the debtor's identity.
• Hand accounts over for legal action once internal steps are exhausted.
• Record reasons for non-payment so the credit team can adjust policy.
• Update debtor contact details from tracing searches.

• At least 6 months in collections, sales or a call centre
• Clear credit and criminal record
• You keep your tone respectful even when the debtor is not
• Good with numbers, dates and payment calculations
• Matric

• Uncapped monthly commission on collected rands
• Structured weekday hours with only occasional Saturdays
• Council for Debt Collectors registration paid for you
• Monthly incentives for the top three collectors

• Show your collection results as numbers (for example "collected R420 000 a month against a R350 000 target").
• Interviewers often role-play a difficult debtor; stay polite, get a date and an amount, and close the call.
