Commercial Electrician (Shopfitting & Retail) – Fixed-Term

You'll wire, fault-find and certify installations for the food processing plant in Johannesburg CBD. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Johannesburg CBD-based, with most of your time spent at a food processing plant. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Fault-find tripping circuits with a multimeter, insulation tester and loop tester
• Lock out and tag out circuits before any work on live equipment
• Complete job cards, material lists and test reports at the end of each job
• Quote small jobs for clients and explain the fault in plain language
• Test installations and issue Certificates of Compliance where your registration allows
• Install and wire distribution boards, isolators and earth leakage units to SANS 10142-1

• Your own basic hand tools and a calibrated multimeter
• Registered with the Department of Employment and Labour as an Installation Electrician or holding a Wireman's licence
• Valid Code 08 driver's licence
• Comfortable working at heights on ladders and in roof spaces
• Solid working knowledge of SANS 10142-1 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
• At least 3 years working as a qualified electrician after your trade test

• PLC and motor control experience from a factory setting
• Solar PV installation training and experience with hybrid inverters

• Standby allowance when you are on the after-hours roster
• Overtime paid at time-and-a-half on weekends
• Company-issued test instruments, calibrated every year

• Put your registration category (IE, MIE or single-phase tester) and registration number right under your name on the CV.
• If you have issued CoCs before, say how many and for what type of property.
