TIG Welder (Stainless Steel Food Equipment)

The petrochemical shutdown contractor in Vereeniging needs a coded welder who can hold a WPS and deliver clean, sound joints. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

Home base is a petrochemical shutdown contractor on the Vereeniging side of Gauteng. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Keep a hot work permit open and a fire watch in place during shutdowns
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector
• Weld carbon steel pipe in the 6G position using GTAW root and SMAW fill
• Fit up beams, columns and bracing with the correct gaps and alignment
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging

• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying

• Rigging or crane signalling certificate
• Experience on structural work to AWS D1.1
• Duplex or chrome-moly welding experience

• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns

• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
