Commercial Plumber (New Builds) – Permanent

Know your way around SANS 10254 and a geyser drip tray? The private hospital maintenance department in Epping wants to hear from you. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is Epping-based, with most of your time spent at a private hospital maintenance department.

• Clear blocked drains with a rodding machine and inspect lines with a drain camera
• Issue plumbing Certificates of Compliance for completed installations
• Order fittings from the supplier and keep the van stocked
• Replace burst geysers and fit vacuum breakers, drip trays and pressure control valves to SANS 10254
• Take photos and complete the insurer's claim report after each geyser job
• Trace hidden leaks using pressure tests and moisture readings

• PIRB registration as a Licensed Plumber, so you can issue plumbing CoCs
• Fit enough to lift a 150-litre geyser with a helper and work in tight roof spaces
• Plumbing trade test certificate or an Occupational Certificate: Plumber (NQF 4)
• At least 3 years as a qualified plumber, including geyser replacements
• Able to talk politely to home owners about damage and costs
• Working knowledge of SANS 10252-1 and SANS 10254

• SAQCC Gas registration for LPG installations
• Experience with insurance repair work and claim paperwork

• Call-out bonus for every after-hours job you complete
• Fully stocked service van with a fuel card
• Protective clothing and safety boots replaced yearly
• Cellphone allowance for job updates and photos

• Put your PIRB number at the top of your CV. Insurance contractors check it before they read anything else.
• Mention how many geyser replacements you do in a normal month. It is the number most plumbing managers ask about.
