Job Description

Want to grow as a chef? This city hotel kitchen in Newcastle gives you real stations and real volume. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Location: Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first.

What your day looks like

Prep veg, sauces, marinades and portions from the daily mise en place list.
Cook for banquets and conference lunches of 100 to 400 guests.
Bake breads, pastries or desserts for the morning buffet.
Run your station during service and call back every ticket from the pass.
Log fridge and freezer temperatures twice a shift on the HACCP sheet.
Plate to the spec photo so every dish looks the same.

What you need

You take instruction from the head chef without drama
Good knife skills and you can prep at speed
Weekend, holiday and evening work is part of the deal
Comfortable in heat, on your feet, for long split shifts
A culinary certificate or City & Guilds, or solid on-the-job experience

Helpful, not essential

Pastry or bakery training
Halaal or kosher kitchen experience
A food safety certificate from a registered training provider

On offer

Transport allowance for split and late shifts
Chef whites and safety shoes provided
On-the-job training with a path to chef de partie
