Construction General Worker (Building Site)

Hard outdoor work on a school building project in Burgersfort, with a chance to learn a trade while you earn. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Home base is a school building project on the Burgersfort side of Limpopo. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts

• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Grade 8 or higher
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan

• Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)
• Registered on your ward or municipal job-seeker database

• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Paid weekly or fortnightly

• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
