Construction General Worker (Building Site)

Strong, willing hands are wanted on a road rehabilitation project in Prospecton. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

The work is in Prospecton, KwaZulu-Natal, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks

• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Grade 8 or higher
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather

• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
• Previous site work you can show with a reference
• Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)

• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
