Construction Manager (Mid-Rise Buildings)

You'll run the site day to day for the civil engineering contractor in Kariega, from setting out to handover. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

Location: Kariega, Eastern Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Check reinforcing, shuttering and cover blocks before calling for a pour inspection
• Keep the site diary, daily labour returns and plant hours up to date
• Coordinate subcontractors for plumbing, electrical, roofing and glazing
• Measure completed work for monthly payment certificates
• Chair the weekly site meeting and record actions for the principal agent
• Draw up snag lists and close them out before practical completion

• You can read architectural and structural drawings and pick up clashes
• Good with MS Project or a similar programme tool
• At least 5 years on building or civil sites, 2 of them in a supervisory post
• National Diploma or BTech in Building or Civil Engineering, or a trade background with site experience
• Code 08 licence and your own reliable transport between sites
• Firm with labour, fair with subcontractors

• A common mistake is listing only company names. Say what you built, for example "32 walk-up flats, 3 storeys".
• Add a short project table to your CV: project name, type, rand value and your role. Contractors hire on project size.
