TLB Operator (Civil Works)

The road construction contractor in Komani needs an operator who looks after the machine as well as the job. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

This post is in Komani (Eastern Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Grease the machine daily and report leaks or damage straight away
• Load tipper trucks without spillage or overloading
• Dig trenches for pipes and cables to the depth and grade set by the surveyor
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals
• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Record machine hours and fuel on the daily plant sheet
• Cut and trim road layers to level with the grader

• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Operator certificate for the machine class, from an accredited training provider
• Willing to work on projects outside your home town
• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill
• Medical certificate of fitness for operating mobile plant

• Basic plant maintenance or mechanical knowledge
• Certificates on more than one machine type
• GPS machine control experience on excavators or graders

• Refresher training on new machines
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle
• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites

• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
• You will likely do a practical test on the machine. Do the walk-around check out loud. It shows you work safely.
