Construction Worker (Bricklaying Assistant)

You'll build it with your hands: walls, floors, roofs and finishes on the school construction project in Epping. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

This post is in Epping (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Mix mortar and plaster to the right ratio for the job
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings
• Prime and paint walls, ceilings and woodwork in two or three coats
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish

• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible

• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering
• Experience on NHBRC-registered housing projects

• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest

• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
