Contracts Quantity Surveyor (Commercial Builds)

The main building contractor in Centurion needs a QS who can price a tender and still defend a final account. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a main building contractor in Centurion. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Update cash flow forecasts for the project manager
• Use measuring software to do take-offs from PDF and CAD drawings
• Measure work on site for monthly interim payment certificates
• Prepare the final account at the end of the project
• Price tenders using supplier quotes, labour rates and plant costs
• Draft subcontract agreements and payment schedules

• Code 08 licence for site visits
• Understanding of JBCC Principal Building Agreement clauses
• You know the Standard System of Measuring Building Work
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables
• Accurate with numbers and able to back up every figure you certify
• BSc, BTech or Diploma in Quantity Surveying

• Experience with civil bills using the SANS 1200 standard
• Estimating software experience on top of Excel
• Honours degree in Quantity Surveying

• Study support for an honours degree
• Hybrid days in the office and on site

• Paid SACQSP registration fees and CPD courses

• List projects with their contract value and whether you worked for the client side or the contractor side.
• Recruiters often give a short take-off test. Practise measuring a simple house plan under time pressure before the interview.
