Cost Estimator (Shopfitting)

This is a numbers job with boots on: bills of quantities, site measurements and payment claims in Stellenbosch. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is Stellenbosch-based, with most of your time spent at a main building contractor. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Use measuring software to do take-offs from PDF and CAD drawings
• Update cash flow forecasts for the project manager
• Get quotes from subcontractors and compare them line by line
• Take off quantities from drawings to build a bill of quantities
• Draft subcontract agreements and payment schedules
• Measure work on site for monthly interim payment certificates

• Accurate with numbers and able to back up every figure you certify
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables
• You know the Standard System of Measuring Building Work
• Code 08 licence for site visits

• Honours degree in Quantity Surveying
• Estimating software experience on top of Excel

• Travel allowance for site visits
• Hybrid days in the office and on site
• Paid SACQSP registration fees and CPD courses

• List projects with their contract value and whether you worked for the client side or the contractor side.
• Recruiters often give a short take-off test. Practise measuring a simple house plan under time pressure before the interview.
