Creche Assistant (Baby Room)

Parents at this Montessori pre-school in Pinetown trust you with their children every morning. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is in Pinetown (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Set up daily learning areas for art, blocks, reading and fantasy play
• Chat to parents at drop-off and pick-up about how the day went
• Plan themes and holiday programmes with the principal
• Clean and sanitise toys, mats and tables at the end of the day
• Run morning ring with songs, weather and counting
• Watch children closely outside and keep the play area safe
• Feed, change and settle babies and toddlers on their routine

• Clear Form 30 child protection check and police clearance
• Warm, patient and energetic with small children
• Paediatric first aid certificate
• ECD Level 4 or Level 5 qualification, or currently studying towards one
• Matric
• Able to follow hygiene and safety routines without cutting corners

• Experience with children with special needs
• Basic music, art or movement skills for group activities
• Speak more than one home language of the children you'll teach

• Reduced fees for your own child

• Sponsored ECD Level 5 studies
• Short holiday closures over December and Easter

• Add one sentence about an activity you ran that the children loved; it shows you can plan, not just supervise.
• Apply for the Form 30 check early, as it can take weeks and many creches won't appoint without it.
