Debtors Clerk (Credit Control)

Recons that balance and suppliers who get paid right: that's the job at a small accounting practice in Springs. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is in Springs (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Capture supplier invoices and customer receipts on Sage or Xero
• Prepare VAT201 workings for the accountant to submit on SARS eFiling
• Reconcile creditors statements and sort out differences with suppliers
• Run petty cash and file slips with proper supporting documents
• Reconcile bank accounts daily and clear unallocated items

• At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work
• Good with Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables and simple formulas
• Understanding of VAT input and output rules
• Matric with Accounting
• Practical skill in Sage Pastel, Sage Business Cloud or Xero

• Experience with inventory costing in a trading business
• Experience with debt collection letters and handover to attorneys
• Knowledge of Sage Evolution or QuickBooks

• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms
• Office hours with no weekend work
• Hybrid work after probation at some practices

• Recruiters often give a short Excel or recon test, so practise a bank recon before the interview.
• Say how far you take the books, for example "to trial balance" or "to management accounts"; it tells recruiters your level.
