Development Miner (Hard Rock)

This mechanised hard-rock mine near Kimberley needs a miner who makes every workplace safe before a single hole is drilled. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

You'll be based at a mechanised hard-rock mine in Kimberley. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Stop work when a condition is unsafe, using your right to withdraw
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report

• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards

• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning
• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses

• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Housing or living-out allowance
• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Underground allowance for every shift below surface

• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
