Development Miner (Hard Rock)

You'll lead a crew safely through drilling, blasting and cleaning at the mechanised hard-rock mine near Vanderbijlpark. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

You'll be based at a mechanised hard-rock mine in Vanderbijlpark. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate
• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows

• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards

• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning
• Experience in trackless mechanised sections

• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved

• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
• Write your blasting certificate number and date of issue near the top of the CV.
