Diesel Fitter (Forklift Fleet)

The municipal bus depot in Stellenbosch needs a trade-tested diesel mechanic for workshop and field work. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

You'll be based at a municipal bus depot in Stellenbosch. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Diagnose electronic engine faults with a heavy-duty diagnostic laptop
• Carry out pre-roadworthy checks before the vehicle goes for COF testing
• Inspect tyres, fifth wheels and kingpins for wear and damage
• Record parts used and hours worked on the fleet system
• Attend roadside breakdowns in the service truck
• Fault-find AdBlue and aftertreatment systems on newer engines

• Code 14 licence so you can move and test trucks
• Solid understanding of air brake systems
• Experience with electronic diagnostics on modern diesel engines
• At least 3 years on heavy commercial vehicles or plant

• PrDP for road tests with loaded vehicles
• Hydraulic systems training
• Auto electrical skills

• Heavy-duty tools supplied by the workshop
• Standby and call-out allowance
• Overtime available most weeks
• Provident fund and funeral cover

• List the truck and engine types you have worked on, including electronic systems. Fleet managers screen for those.
• Your Code 14 is a big plus. Put it right below your name, not at the bottom of the CV.
