Diesel Mechanic (Heavy Commercial Trucks)

The municipal bus depot in Mamelodi needs a trade-tested diesel mechanic for workshop and field work. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll be based at a municipal bus depot in Mamelodi. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Attend roadside breakdowns in the service truck
• Service trucks and trailers on the planned maintenance schedule
• Diagnose electronic engine faults with a heavy-duty diagnostic laptop
• Overhaul brake systems, including air valves, chambers and slack adjusters
• Record parts used and hours worked on the fleet system

• At least 3 years on heavy commercial vehicles or plant
• Solid understanding of air brake systems
• Code 14 licence so you can move and test trucks
• Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs
• Experience with electronic diagnostics on modern diesel engines

• Auto electrical skills
• PrDP for road tests with loaded vehicles

• Standby and call-out allowance
• Overtime available most weeks
• Provident fund and funeral cover

• List the truck and engine types you have worked on, including electronic systems. Fleet managers screen for those.
• Your Code 14 is a big plus. Put it right below your name, not at the bottom of the CV.
